To gain the most benefit from our excellent coaching
staff and help ensure that all partcipants recieve
the instruction and attention they need, the team is divided
into four groups, depending upon the swimmer's skill level,
experience and commitment. It is important for each
swimmer to attend the appropriate swim practice for his or her
skill level. The coaches will assess all newcomers if
you are unsure of your childs level.
GROUP 1 Geared for graduates of swim
lessons and works to develop the four basic competitive
strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststoke and
butterfly. These swimmers will prepare for competition
and are eligible to swim in team meets and are encouraged to
do so when their parents, coaches and the swimmer feel
they are "meet ready". These swimmers are usually 6 -10
years old. They practice 2 -3 days a week.
GROUP 2 Stroke development continues
with introduction to competitive technique, including kicks,
turns and starts. These swimmers are usually 8 -
12 years old and they practice 2 -3 days a week.
GROUP 3 Competitive technique
continues, along with an introduction to cardiovascular and
interval training. This level will start to add strategy
to the stroke technique and the stroke development.
Active participation in practice and a commitment to the team
are required at this level. Dryland and flexibility
training are recommended but not required for this
group. These swimmers are usually 10 year old and up and
they practice 3 - 4 days a week.
GROUP 4 Most advanced level of
swimming offered with advanced stroke technique, intense
cardiovascular and interval training. This group is very
goal oriented and dryland strength and flexibility training is
mandatory. USA swimming is highly recommended at this
level. These swimmers are usually 13 years old and up
and they practice 4 - 5 days a week.
